Kirchner Calls Splitting Buenos Aires Elections a Political Error

Former Argentine President Cristina Kirchner criticized Governor Axel Kicillof for splitting the provincial elections, calling it a "political error" that led to defeat. She claims she had warned about the risks of such a decision.

Kirchner Calls Splitting Buenos Aires Elections a Political Error

We said this publicly on April 14th when, in the face of the Governor's decision to split the provincial election, as president of the national PJ, I instructed our political force in the Buenos Aires Legislature to withdraw from the Electoral Coexistence Bill, which aimed for the people of Buenos Aires to vote only ONCE TO NOT DIVIDE THE EFFORTS INTO TWO SEPARATE ELECTIONS JUST 49 DAYS APART,” she stated.

Along those lines, Cristina Kirchner went on to say: “Additionally, in private (due to the nature of the proposal), I also maintained that advancing the elections in the Province of Buenos Aires was very risky due to both its electoral weight and symbolic value, and because if they were lost, it would have a devastating effect on Peronism at the national level, and if they were won, it would produce a 'runoff effect' that would allow all anti-Peronist votes to regroup for the October legislative elections.”

From the environment of the Governor of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, they affirmed today that the criticism from former President Cristina Kirchner "was not a surprise" and assured that her arguments are "disproved" by reality, as they explained to the Argentine News Agency.

For the leadership of the Government of the Province of Buenos Aires, the former head of state repeated a "rigged" analysis that, "from that sector (La Cámpora), is trying to be installed since last Sunday."

"These arguments are disproved by reality, since the September strategy worked and the October one did not. Not only in PBA, but throughout the country," they added.

The response from La Plata comes before the meeting that Kicillof will lead today with mayors from his space, the Movement for the Right to the Future (MDF).

Earlier, the former head of state had questioned her former Minister of Economy for splitting the provincial elections, something she described as a "political error."

Cristina Kirchner pointed to Kicillof for the electoral defeat: "The split was a political error"

In making an extensive analysis of Sunday's defeat, Cristina Kirchner recalled that when the split of the elections was announced, she warned it was a mistake.

"I did it with heart and for a simple reason: I don't care about being right, I care about winning the elections, as I also told the Governor personally," she emphasized on her social networks.

To reinforce her argument, the former head of state cited other Peronist governors who won legislative elections, such as Sergio Ziliotto of La Pampa; Ricardo Quintela of La Rioja; Raúl Jalil of Catamarca; Osvaldo Jaldo of Tucumán; and Gildo Insfrán of Formosa.

"I'm not saying it on Monday, as the 'experts and analysts' usually do."
